Google recently announced the impending closure of Google Podcasts, with plans for it to be phased out by the end of this year 2024. This decision comes with a new tool to facilitate the transition: a way to migrate your podcasts subscriptions either to YouTube Music or to download them as a file for import into other compatible apps.

Google Podcasts Subscription Migration

The transition tool aims to provide users with a seamless experience as they shift away from Google Podcasts. According to Google, by migrating to YouTube Music, users can continue enjoying their favourite podcasts on the go, complete with features like background play and downloads, all without requiring a paid membership.

Timeline of Transition: Important Dates to Remember

It’s crucial to note the timeline of this transition. According to Google, after June 23rd, 2024, Google Podcasts will cease to function, making it impossible to listen to podcasts through the Google Podcasts platform. Furthermore, after July 29th, 2024, the window for migrating or exporting subscriptions will close permanently. Therefore, be sure to export your subscriptions before then.

Tips to Successfully Migrate Google Podcasts Subscriptions

To make use of the migration and export tools, users must ensure they are using the latest versions of the Google Search and Google Podcasts apps and possess a valid account type. Note that according to Google, failure to update to the latest app version by July 29, 2024, will result in automatic redirection to the web version of Google Podcasts for Android or iOS users. However, it’s worth noting that some features, such as downloading episodes, may not be available on the web version.

Stay Updated

For those accustomed to using Google Podcasts on their mobile devices, it’s imperative to stay up to date with app updates to avoid disruptions in service and access to migration tools. By doing so, users can seamlessly transition their podcasts subscriptions to YouTube Music or other compatible apps before the closure of Google Podcasts.

Save Your Subscriptions

In conclusion, if you’re a Google Podcasts user, now is the time to take action. Ensure your apps are up to date and utilize the provided migration tools to transfer your podcast subscriptions. Also be ready to embrace YouTube Music like you never have before.
