But generally for criminal matters, the police have jurisdiction and they work together with the Directorate of Public Prosecutions to prosecute the matter before courts on your behalf.

This is absolutely a free service from reporting all the way up to the matter ending in the courts.

Small Claims Court

If it’s a matter relating to claims of small amounts of money less than P10,000 you also have access to the Small Claims Court. This Court is open to everyone, its free and you can represent yourself on your claims matter. This Court is located in majority of Magistrates courts. So go to a Magistrate Court near you and enquire about their small claims court.

Access to Magistrate Court

We also have Magistrate courts all across the county. The Magistrate Court hears all cases and in cases of claims of money the claims have to be below P40,000.00. This court is accessible to everyone and you can also represent yourself in this court. They have translators of various languages, you can choose to conduct your proceedings in Setswana.

The Magistrate Court also has templates for each type of case you want to lodge and the officers are open to advising you on how to complete and use this templates to better present your case.
