Legal Dialog is a legal education startup on a mission to make the law easy and accessible for young people in Botswana. We’re demystifying legal concepts, sparking open conversations, and empowering individuals to confidently navigate legal matters.
We are seeking a highly skilled and intellectually curious Writer & Editor Intern to join our growing team. This is an opportunity to contribute to a mission-driven organization at the intersection of law, media, and education. You’ll be responsible for translating legal concepts into clear, accurate, and engaging content for non-legal audiences – playing a key role in building trust and demystifying the law for the next generation.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct legal and thematic research to inform content development.
- Write and edit high-quality articles, explainers, blog posts, and educational guides.
- Translate complex legal concepts into accessible, plain-language formats.
- Develop content for web, social media, downloadable templates, and community-facing materials.
- Ensure all content aligns with Legal Dialog’s editorial voice, legal accuracy, and style guidelines.
- Optimize written content for clarity, structure, SEO, and user engagement.
- Format and publish content using WordPress, including image selection, metadata tagging, and layout optimization.
- Assist with proofreading, fact-checking, and quality control across editorial outputs.
- Track local legal developments and identify content opportunities relevant to youth audiences.
- Contribute to shaping the content calendar and evolving editorial processes.
Qualifications & Experience
- Graduate Diploma or Degree in Law, Journalism, Communications, or a related field.
- Demonstrated excellence in writing and editing for diverse, non-expert audiences.
- Proven ability to simplify complex topics without sacrificing accuracy or nuance.
- Familiarity with SEO best practices, digital publishing, and content optimization techniques.
- Experience with WordPress, Google Docs, and Microsoft Word; design literacy is a plus.
- Working knowledge of tools such as Grammarly, SurferSEO, or equivalent content tools.
- Exceptional attention to detail, grammar, and editorial standards.
- Comfortable receiving editorial feedback and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced setting.
- Self-starter with strong time management and project ownership abilities.
- A team-oriented mindset with curiosity, creativity, and commitment to the mission
