Easy Law – A Legal Technology Company in Botswana
We recently caught up with one of the leading legal technology companies in Botswana called EasyLaw and this is their story.

Explain what EasyLaw is in simple terms?
EasyLaw, is a legal know-how platform that provides users with a database of legal information. In an age of digitalization and information accessibility, it is pertinent for people to be well versed and kept up to date with the legal changes that would be impacting their businesses.
How did the idea of coming up with this company happen?
EasyLaw’s founder Imaan Kader who is an Attorney by profession identified a gap in the market for those who wanted easy access to legal literature and for those who do not understand legal literature. According to Imaan, legal literature, in the form of Bills, Acts, Regulations, Bye-Rules and any other form it may take, is not easily accessible especially for non-legal practitioners, and may be challenging to understand for some. Therefore, EasyLaw’s goal is to make legal information accessible to all corporate entities and, or individuals, inclusive of those who may not, at the onset of their business venture, be in a position to afford legal advice. EasyLaw provides legal information, legal insights and legal contracts/policies. EasyLaw is a first of its kind in Botswana (a disruptor in the legal field), its aim is to reach a new age of digitalization and spearhead the development of legal technology.
EasyLaw’s concept of providing legal documentation stems from the founders’ experience when she moved from private practice to an in-house organization. There, Imaan said she realized how much the organization she worked for required legal contracts. She stated that it is important to note at this point that:
(i) most in-house lawyers are not draftsmen and rely on precedents to create the contracts, and
(ii) law-firms are costly when it comes to drafting contacts).
As such, the idea came to her mind that companies require contracts quite often, and to provide it in a cost-effective timeous manner, would solve the problem of compliance reluctance.
What impact do you want EasyLaw to make?
EasyLaw aims to democratize access to legal information. Small and medium enterprises require guidance, policies, and legal documents, but obtaining them can be prohibitively expensive. EasyLaw offers a solution by making legal information accessible to those who cannot afford it.
Where do you see EasyLaw in the next 5 years?
EasyLaw’s goal is to become a reputable and trusted brand within the commercial sector in Botswana within the next five years.
