Read Before You Sign

Can you think of any document you have signed recently?

The truth of the matter is, there are a number of documents that we sign either everyday or once in a while. These will normally depend on the types of job we are doing or the services we receive which require our signatures.

Sometimes it can even be a simple thing as using your bank card to swipe at a shop, as sometimes they require you to sign their receipt.  Have you ever asked yourself why they ask you to do that?

There is in law a concept called “Caveat Subscripto”. This is a italian phrase which simply means that “beware of what you sign”.

In law and in business, documents you sign become binding upon you. It is therefore assumed that at the time of signing that particular document you would have read and understood it. By signing then, it means you agree with each and everything that is written on that particular document.

Therefore be careful of what you sign before you sign.

This is very simple but complex thing to remember. Read everything before you sign, so that you are aware of what you are signing and its implications.
